Changing Weather Patterns: Pune Braces for Monsoon Resurgence

Pune, 20th August 2023: The emergence of a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal has set the stage for favorable rain conditions across the state, including Pune. On Saturday, the city witnessed intermittent bouts of very light to light rainfall at various locales. Meteorological projections indicate an anticipated resurgence in monsoon activity for the upcoming week.

The sky exhibited a mix of partly cloudy conditions throughout Saturday. However, post-noon, cloud cover intensified, culminating in light showers across numerous areas in the evening. The city recorded an average precipitation of under 0.5 mm. According to weather experts, cloudy skies are expected to persist over the city and the district for the following week, with the potential for occasional very light rain.

Presently, the low-pressure belt that signifies the onset of the monsoon has returned to its normal state. The monsoon center holds sway over regions including Ganganagar, Narnul, Datia, Satana, with the low-pressure center extending to Balasore in Southeast Bay of Bengal. 

Cyclonic winds are sweeping across North West Madhya Pradesh and its environs at an elevation of 3.1 km above sea level.

Statewide Weather Overview: Across the state, overcast conditions prevail, accompanied by a noticeable surge in temperatures. Sporadic rain showers have graced certain areas. For Sunday (20th), a weather advisory warns of heavy rain at isolated locations in Vidarbha’s districts, encompassing Akola, Amravati, Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Bhandara, Nashik, and Jalgaon in North Maharashtra. The remainder of Vidarbha, along with Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra, is likely to experience rain accompanied by lightning. In Konkan, isolated regions can expect heavy to light rain, while the rest of the state is predicted to encounter variable degrees of rain.
