New Delhi, 25th July 2022: The last date for filing the Income Tax Return (ITR) is 31st July. If a person is going to file an Income Tax Return (ITR), they have to keep in mind that it needs to be verified.

As per income tax laws, ITR will not be considered valid if it is not verified within 120 days from the date of filing. There are six ways through which verification can be done when the ITR is not required to be audited. Generally, audit of ITR-1, ITR-2 and ITR-4 is not required.

These are the six ways through which income tax can be verified:

  • Aadhaar based OTP: ITR can be verified using Aadhaar based One-time Password (OTP). For this the mobile number should be linked with Aadhaar
  • Send the signed ITR-V: One can send a signed copy of your ITR-V (Acknowledgement Receipt) to the Income Tax Department.
  • Net-banking: On the ‘e-Verify’ page select, ‘Through Net Banking’ and click on ‘Continue’. Now select the bank through which you want to verify the ITR and click on ‘Continue’.
  • From bank account: In this method, ITR has to be verified by generating Electronic Verification Code (EVC) from the bank account.
  • Demat Account: This process is similar to verifying ITR from a bank account. Go to the ‘e-Verify’ page and select ‘Through Demat Account’ option and click on ‘Continue’.
  • Bank ATM: EVC can also be issued through the bank’s ATM card. However, this facility is available only in a limited number of banks. Visit your bank’s ATM and swipe the ATM card. Enter ATM PIN and select Generate EVC for Income Tax Filing. EVC will be sent on mobile number and email id. Make sure that the PAN number is registered with the bank.
