Pune, 7th January 2022: Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show that was to be held at Pune tonight, got canceled despite prior permissions. The organizer cited Covid restrictions as the reason.

Earlier, the founder of Spade Entertainment, Sahil Kale said, “We are waiting for the new guidelines from Maharashtra State Government in the backdrop of the rising COVID cases. For the event that was scheduled to happen at Wanowrie, 350 tickets (50 percent of the hall capacity) were booked as per COVID guidelines.”

However, now it is learned that organizer Kale has urged Wanowrie Police to postpone the event. In a letter submitted to Pune City Police, Kale wrote “Kindly postpone the event, for the 7th January, Friday for a stand-up comedy event by Munawar Faruqui from 5-8 PM. The new date will be announced once the new Covid guidelines are issued by the Govt. of Maharashtra/PMC which was supposed to take place at Mahatma Phule Sanskrutik Bhavan in Wanowrie. For the next date, we’ll take necessary police permissions (sic).”

Other than the Covid situation, several right-wing groups have tweeted to troll the comedian, being cited as a reason for the show to be canceled.
