Compulsory work from home for IT sector, passengers to be screened at Pune railway station, Expressway, Old Pune-Mumbai

Pune, March 19, 2020: District Collector Naval Kishore Ram today said, “Given the number of travellers coming to Pune, the quarantine facilities are to be greatly enhanced. Up to 10,000 beds are being planned at the administrative level. To avoid congestion, hard decisions will be taken in the coming days. Work from home instructions has been given to those working in the IT sector in Pune. It will be fully implemented in the next two days.”

Ram also urged people to provide the necessary support to the administration to overcome corona disease.

Pune Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said that screening of passengers at railway stations, Pune-Mumbai Expressway and old Mumbai-Pune Highway will start from today. The government has procured 50 thermal scanners.

He also urged citizens to avoid crowded places, avoid public contact, cooperate with the administration and health department officials given the increased risk of the outbreak of the coronavirus. He also said that apart from food and other essential commodities nothing will be allowed for delivery at home.

He was speaking at a press conference organized at the Pune District Collector office. District Collector Naval Kishore Ram, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mitesh Ghate, Deputy District Collector Dr Jayashree Katare, Deputy Director Health Sanjay Deshmukh, District Surgeon Ashok Nandapurkar and others were present.

Dr Mhaisekar said that instructions regarding the supply of essential commodities like milk, grains, vegetables, groceries and medicines were given to the concerned authorities along with the marketing authorities. Instructions have been given to the concerned about providing N-95 masks and surgical masks. Two thousand N-95 masks will be received today. Particular attention has been paid to the need for present and future needs, along with the storage of additional medicines and the shortage of medicines.

In consultation with the Director of Education, suggestions have been made to provide additional hostels for the quarantine of travellers. The quarantine facility for 5000 persons has been made after discussions with the head of 26 education institutions.

While giving more information, he said that in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, there are a total of 19 Coronavirus positive persons. Till now 1,74,235 persons have been screened in the city. Of these, 10 suspects were taken to the hospital.

Dr Mhaisekar said that the rounds of buses have been reduced to avoid congestion in Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation areas. He also informed that the registration process of Setu and Maha e-Seva Kendra and property in Pune district has been stopped till further orders.

A discussion has been held with all the medical institutes in Pune district. It has been decided to coordinate and streamline the functioning of private hospitals and government hospitals. Sassoon Hospital and BJ Medical College Dean Dr Ajay Chandanwale have been given the responsibility of coordinating the matter.
