Los Angeles, 27th December 2023: It appears that not everyone supports how Vanessa Bryant, the widow of Kobe Bryant, is allocating her late husband’s wealth since his passing in January 2020.

In a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, psychologist and social media personality Dr Umar Johnson criticized Vanessa Bryant for not using Kobe’s money to contribute to the Black community. According to Dr. Umar, Vanessa initiated a sports initiative with three predominantly white colleges using Kobe’s money and name, which he disapproves of.

Kobe Bryant’s net worth at the time of his death was reported to be $600 million, amassed through his earnings, endorsement deals, and post-NBA investments. Vanessa Bryant and Nike are set to re-launch some of Kobe’s signature shoes in the coming months. Vanessa promoted the re-launch on social media, emphasizing Kobe’s legacy and the “Mamba Mentality.”

In the podcast, Dr. Umar questioned Vanessa’s allocation of funds, while others, including Nike, continue to celebrate Kobe’s legacy through merchandise. He raised concerns about the sports initiative with predominantly white colleges, implying a perceived lack of contribution to the Black community.

On a positive note, Vanessa Bryant, along with Nike, is proceeding with the re-launch of Kobe’s signature shoes, reinforcing his lasting impact in the world of basketball. Additionally, the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, established in 2018, continues to work toward providing opportunities for underserved youth in sports. Kobe Bryant himself was actively involved in various charitable organizations throughout his career, contributing to both the social and sports aspects of communities in need.
