Pune, May 15, 2020: The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government is expected to announce extension of lockdown in Mumbai, Pune and other hotspots in the state up to May 31, says a report published in Mumbai Mirror.

Malegaon, Aurangabad and Solapur among other hotspots will also come under the extension of the lockdown. This decision was made in a meeting on Thursday morning that was attended by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar among other state cabinet ministers, claims the report.

The state will implement the Centre’s guidelines that will be issued in the next two days for other areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the nation on Tuesday, had said a fourth phase of the lockdown would be implemented after May 17. Still, the rules for it will be very different with many more relaxations likely.

The State hasn’t released any official confirmation of the extension. With over,1602 new COVID-19 cases, reported highest in a single day taking the total cases to 27,524 in Maharashtra on Thursday, while 44 deaths – 25 of them in Mumbai – raised the toll to 1,019. Mumbai, Pune and Thane are the highest infected with COVID-19.

Dr Sanjay Oak(Chairman of COVID 19 task force) informed the CM that close to 20,000 people would need hospitalisation in the next week or so. However, the government is working in synergy to provide various relaxations and relief to people in containment zones and also migrant labourers who are stranded.
