Pune, 25th November 2023: In response to the escalating concerns over the city’s air quality, Credai Pune Metro expresses its serious apprehension regarding the deteriorating air quality index, adversely impacting citizens’ quality of life. The organization welcomes the guidelines issued by the authorities to combat air pollution.

Aligning with directives from the Supreme Court, High Courts, National Green Tribunal, and the Environment and Climate Change Department, Credai Pune Metro has urged its members to implement essential measures. This includes installing systems on construction sites, wrapping green nets around buildings, and ensuring that trucks transporting construction debris are fully covered with a valid PUC certificate.

Addressing practical challenges, Credai Pune Metro has proposed modifications to the guidelines:

1. While the guidelines recommend 25 feet GI/metal sheets, the association suggests a minimum of 14 feet height for practicality, supplemented by a 6 feet green cloth around the construction site’s periphery. This adjustment considers concerns such as hindrance to light and ventilation, safety hazards, and tree preservation.

2. Project promoters are mandated to procure air quality monitoring systems within 90 days, addressing the practical delivery time from suppliers.

3. Sprinkler systems must be installed within 60 days at locations where material loading and unloading occur on construction sites.

4. All construction personnel are obligated to wear personal protective equipment, including masks, gloves, goggles, and helmets.

5. Ensuring paved driveways or regular water sprinkling on non-paved areas to mitigate dust erosion is emphasized.

Credai Pune Metro acknowledges the authorities’ issuance of notices to members for guideline implementation, clarifying that these notices are precautionary measures rather than work stoppages. The association unequivocally supports compliance with the issued guidelines to prevent air pollution.
