Pune, 25th November 2023: Raising concerns over the influence of majority Hinduism, Rashtriya Janata Dal’s National Spokesperson, MP Manoj Kumar Jha, accused the BJP on Friday of attempting to regress India by thousands of years. Jha warned that such efforts could transform India into a state akin to Pakistan, posing a threat not only to minorities but also to the majority Hindu population.

The lecture on ‘Minorities and Lok Sabha Elections 2024’ was organized by People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Shankar Bramhe Sociology Library and Minority Voice under the ‘Sardar Smriti Lecture.’ Organizers Angha Lele, Milind Champanerkar, Vandana Palasane, and Keshav Waghmare were present during the event.

Jha remarked, “Under the guise of Hindu-Muslim polarization, Indians have been ensnared in a magician’s spell for the past decade. All political parties have succumbed to this illusion. It is imperative to change the approach in communicating with minorities during these times.”

Highlighting the escalating caste enmity and intolerance in the country, Jha expressed concern that a cow’s value has surpassed that of human life. He asserted that it would take the next 50 years to recover from the damage caused by these issues.

Reflecting on the changing dynamics of political leadership, Jha contrasted Pandit Nehru’s engagement with the opposition in Parliament with the current Prime Minister’s apparent reluctance to do the same. He lamented the normalization of mob rule, resulting in frequent incidents of violence and hatred.

Discussing the evolving perception of secularism, Jha emphasized the need to preserve the diversity of all religions, expressing concern that secularism has now become a term of insult, ironically labeled as ‘secular.’

In a notable shift to language critique, Jha criticized Prime Minister Modi for his use of offensive language and expressed the desire to win not only the Lok Sabha elections but also the “war of language.” This included a remark about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, metaphorically “pricking the ears” in criticism.
