Pune, 29th June 2023: In a significant development, the Pune Rural Police have recovered the compass cutter used in the murder of Darshana Pawar, who was brutally killed for refusing to marry Rahul Handore. The authorities have also confiscated the bike utilized by the accused during their trip to Rajgad, as well as the clothes worn by Rahul at the time of the murder. The police custody of Rahul Handore has been extended until Monday, July 3, to facilitate further investigation.

Rahul had initially confessed to stabbing Darshana multiple times with the compass cutter, but later revealed to the police that he had also used a stone to kill her. As a result, the items connected to the crime are being seized.

Darshana’s body was discovered at the base of Rajgad on June 18, after she and Rahul had gone trekking together. Rahul was subsequently arrested on June 21 in Mumbai. She had recently passed the MPSC exam and ranked third in the state.

During the court proceedings on Thursday, it was revealed that Rahul had utilized two additional shirts during the crime, which are yet to be recovered. Additionally, questions have arisen regarding his whereabouts during his brief period as a fugitive. The exact location where he stayed during this time remains unknown. Consequently, police requested a four-day extension to Rahul’s police custody.

On behalf of the accused, Adv. Ganesh Mane argued that the preliminary investigation had already been completed, rendering police custody unnecessary. Adv. Mane advocated for the accused to be placed under judicial custody instead.

Considering the magnitude of the crime, the court granted an extension of Rahul’s police custody until Monday.
