Mumbai, 29th May 2023: In a significant move to enhance transparency and provide convenience to home buyers and real estate investors, Maharera (Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority) has introduced QR codes for all housing projects registered with Maharera. Starting from August 1, these QR codes, along with the Maharera number and website, must be prominently displayed in all advertisements related to housing projects.

The issuance of QR codes began in March, with Maharera including comprehensive project details and the registration letter in the QR codes for newly registered housing projects. The circular issued by Maharera emphasizes the necessity of prominently featuring the QR code in all project-related advertisements across various media platforms, including newspapers, electronic media, and social media channels like Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp.

The QR code will provide potential home buyers with instant access to vital information about the project. With a single click, they can retrieve details such as the project’s name, developer’s name, expected completion date, registration status, any complaints filed against the project, necessary approvals, and the project’s current status after commencement.

Crucial information like any modifications in the approved plan and project registration renewal will also be readily available through the QR code. This streamlined accessibility aims to empower customers in making informed decisions regarding their property investments.

Furthermore, in compliance with the RERA Act, developers are required to update project information on their websites periodically, typically every 3 to 6 months. The inclusion of Form 5, a vital document showcasing the project’s current status, total cost, and other pertinent details, on the project website annually is mandatory. The introduction of QR codes simplifies the process for users, allowing them to conveniently access this information from the comfort of their homes.

The implementation of QR codes by Maharera marks a significant step towards promoting transparency in the real estate sector. This initiative aims to empower home buyers and investors by providing them with comprehensive project information at their fingertips, enabling them to make well-informed decisions. The move also reinforces Maharera’s commitment to ensuring accountability and safeguarding the interests of consumers in the housing market.

As the real estate industry embraces digital advancements, the introduction of QR codes in project advertisements and the provision of easy access to essential project details through this technology are expected to revolutionize the home buying experience in Maharashtra.
