Pune, 8th June 2025: To ease the burden on specialized medical services and ensure early intervention, the Maharashtra government will focus on establishing a strong network of primary healthcare services across the state, announced Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday. He said the state has already taken steps toward restructuring its healthcare system to achieve this goal.

Fadnavis was speaking at the inauguration of Pushpalata D. Y. Patil Hospital at Ambi-Tarangwadi in Maval taluka. The event was attended by Member of Parliament Shrirang Barne, MLA Sunil Shelke, D. Y. Patil University (Navi Mumbai) President and Chancellor Dr. Vijay Patil, D. Y. Patil University (Kolhapur) Chancellor Sanjay Patil, Vice President and Vice Chancellor Dr. Shivani Patil, former Minister of State Sanjay alias Bala Bhegde, entrepreneur Ramdas Kakade, and other dignitaries.

“Primary healthcare significantly reduces the pressure on referral and specialized treatment services. Our focus is to strengthen this foundation across Maharashtra,” Fadnavis said. “Under Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, patients are receiving free treatment up to ₹5 lakh. We aim to ensure that even the poorest get proper healthcare through insurance and assurance schemes.”

He further added that apart from enhancing primary care, the government is working to bolster secondary-level healthcare services and has made substantial investments in the health sector. “In recent years, 10 new government medical colleges have been started, and we aim to establish one in every district,” he said. “The state has also decided to reimburse medical education fees for girls, further expanding access to quality education.”

Commending the contributions of Dr. D. Y. Patil in the field of education, Fadnavis said, “He is among those who have led a transformative movement in higher and technical education in Maharashtra. The D. Y. Patil group has established seven private universities in the state and launched high-quality courses, ensuring access to education without compromising on standards.”

The newly inaugurated Pushpalata D. Y. Patil Hospital is a 600-bed charitable multispecialty hospital equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including its own oxygen generation plant. It is expected to serve residents of Ambi, Maval, and Talegaon, including those working in the nearby industrial areas.

Dr. Vijay Patil, in his address, noted that 70 beds in the hospital have been reserved for patients supported by the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. “So far, 12,000 to 15,000 patients referred through the fund have received treatment here,” Fadnavis added.

Dr. Patil assured that the hospital will provide comprehensive healthcare to the public and will implement government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana. He also urged hospital staff and doctors to offer compassionate and quality service to patients.

The hospital has been named after Pushpalata Patil, whose values and legacy continue to inspire the D. Y. Patil Group’s commitment to health and education.
