Farmers Protest For Fair Compensation During Ring Road Land Acquisition In Pune
Pune, 26th July 2023: In what seems to be an unjust land acquisition process for the Ring Road project, farmers are raising their voices against being offered inadequate compensation. The Shetkari Hakka Samiti, a farmers’ organization, has initiated a dharna agitation in front of the district collectorate, protesting the demand for five times more than the market price for their land.
Participating in the agitation are farmers from various villages in Haveli taluka, including Kalyan, Ranje, Rathavade, Vardade, Vasavewadi, Sangrun, Mandvi, Tatvadi, Bahuli, and others.
While the farmers support development, they highlight the discrepancies in the land acquisition process. The preliminary notice mentioned seasonally irrigated land, but the final notice referred to kharip season, leading to reduced compensation. The farmers argue that they should receive five times more compensation than the market price, as stated in the Government Resolution (GR) pertaining to such matters.
