Football: Sangam Y. B break KP XI hearts, emerge champs
Pune, 8th March 2023: Sangam Young Boys fought off the challenge of arch-rivals KP XI 5-4 via the sudden death to lay their hands on the MLA Trophy 2023, at the Government Polytechnic Ground, Shivajinagar.
The tournament is being conducted under the aegis of the Poona District Football Association (PDFA).
In a nervy final, both teams failed to break the deadlock at the end of 70 minutes of regulation time.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, both Sangam Y.B and KP XI failed to break the deadlock. For Sangam Pratik Sable, Narsimha Magam, Philip Desa, Harsh Redekar gained success, while KP XI had Vicky Pardeshi, Bevan Chourappa, Alfred Negal, Abhishek Pardeshi level scores (4-4).
Franky D (Sangam Y B) and Romario Nazareth (KP XI) missed their attempts.
With scores on levels, the game went into sudden death wherein Nirmal Chettri missed for KP XI and Yasir Khan scored his attempt to help Sangam Y.B emerge champions.
In the third place play-off, Durga F.A pipped Loukik F A 1-0.
The all-important goal was scored in the first-half by Mayur Waghire (33rd).
