Former President Pranab Mukherjee still alive, clarifies his son
New Delhi, August 13, 2020 : After the rumours of the former president’s death surfaced on social media, Pranab Mukherjee’s son clarified that his father was still alive.
His son clarified the same on social media saying ‘My Father Shri Pranab Mukherjee is still alive & haemodynamically stable!’ He also expressed his anger over media and fake news reports saying ‘Speculations & fake news being circulated by reputed Journalists on social media clearly reflects that Media in India has become a factory of Fake News’.
Earlier Mukherjee had tested positive for COVID-19, and had also undergone a surgery for a brain clot at Army Research & Referral (R&R) Hospital.
In a fresh bulletin, the hospital said that “The condition of Pranab Mukherjee remains unchanged this morning. He is deeply comatose with stable vital parameters and he continues to be on ventilatory support.”
Apologising for tweeting the news of Mukherjee’s death, senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai said, “My deep deep apologies for falling for fake news being circulated on Pranab Mukherjee passing away. I am deeply distraught for falling for this fake news.. it was unprofessional of me to not reconfirm it before tweeting. Apologies to all.. and prayers with the family.”
Sharmishtha Mukherjee, daughter of Pranab Mukherjee requested in a tweet, “Rumours about my father is false. Request, esp’ly to media, NOT to call me as I need to keep my phone free for any updates from the hospital”.
