Fruit and Vegetable Arrivals Rise in Pune’s Market Yard; Prices Remain Stable for Most Items
Market Yard, 2nd December 2024: The wholesale market at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard witnessed a slight increase in the arrival of fruits and vegetables compared to the previous week. While prices of commodities like green chillies, red chillies, ginger, and flowers have dropped, some items such as sugarcane have seen price hikes. Most other fruits and vegetables maintained stable prices, traders confirmed.
On Sunday, approximately 100 trucks of fruits and vegetables arrived at the market from Maharashtra and other states. Significant arrivals included 14–15 tempos of green chillies from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh; 4–5 tempos of cabbage from Karnataka and Gujarat; 7–8 tempos of carrots from Rajasthan; and 12–13 trucks of peas from Madhya Pradesh. Other notable arrivals included 2 tempos of shevga from Andhra Pradesh, 10–12 tempos of bell peppers, and 40–45 tempos of potatoes from Indore and Agra.
Vilas Bhujbal, a commission agent at the Market Yard, provided further details, noting arrivals of 100–125 trucks of onions, 7,000–8,000 boxes of tomatoes, and 40–50 bags of groundnut pods.
Prices of leafy greens such as fenugreek, onion, radish, and chukka have decreased compared to last week. However, coriander, spinach, mint, and other leafy vegetables retained stable prices. The wholesale rates per hundred bundles for popular greens included:
Coriander: ₹1,500–₹2,000
Fenugreek: ₹1,000–₹2,000
Spinach: ₹1,000–₹1,500
Mint: ₹800–₹1,000
In total, 1.5 lakh pairs of coriander and 80,000 pairs of fenugreek arrived at the yard.
The fruit market saw arrivals including 25–30 tons of mosambi, 60–70 tons of oranges, 40–50 tons of pomegranates, and 8–10 tempos of watermelon. Stable prices were observed for watermelon, melon, custard apple, pineapple, mosambi, orange, pomegranate, guava, and chiku.
Sunday’s total fruit arrivals also included 2,000 sacks of lemons, 20–25 tempos of papaya, and 10–12 tons of custard apples.
