Phursungi, 1st March 2025: A fugitive wanted for the murder of a police officer in Karnataka 11 years ago was arrested in the Phursungi area of Pune. The accused, Amrish Kashinath Koli (45), had been evading arrest since escaping from a government hospital in Vijayapura in 2014.

Koli, originally from Kalaburagi, Karnataka, was living in Phursungi, under false identities. He was initially arrested for murdering a police officer in 2009 and sentenced to life imprisonment. In August 2014, he escaped from a government hospital in Vijayapura where he was admitted under the pretext of illness.

Following his escape, Koli married twice and lived in Solapur and Pune using fake names like Rahul Kamble and Raju Kale. He worked as an auto-rickshaw driver and labourer to sustain himself. The accused had obtained fake Aadhaar and PAN cards to conceal his identity.

The breakthrough came when Phursungi Police Constables Sunil Kamble and Vaibhav Bhosale received information about Koli’s presence in the area. They coordinated with Karnataka Police to obtain his details and photograph. A team from Kalaburagi Police Station, including Officers Bhima Nayak and Shashi Kumar Hugar, arrived in Pune on Wednesday (26th February) to assist in the arrest.
