Pune: Ajit Pawar Announces Cancer Vaccine Initiative for Girls and Women in Maharashtra

Aundh, 1st February 2025: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced that the Maharashtra State Government is considering administering a cancer vaccine to girls and women across the state, addressing the rising cancer rates among females. The announcement was made during the inauguration of a special health check-up campaign under the National Child Health Program at Indira Gandhi School in Aundh.

Pawar emphasized that the entire cabinet, including the Public Health Department, Medical Education Department and School Education Department, is focused on this initiative. The program aims to conduct comprehensive medical examinations of all children in Maharashtra, from head to toe, to identify and provide free treatment for physical and mental illnesses at an early stage.

Minister for Public Health and Family Welfare of Maharashtra Prakash Abitkar stated that as part of the Maharashtra Government’s 100-day special program, about two crore children in Maharashtra will undergo health check-ups. The Health Department is also working on inaugurating primary health centers, rural district hospitals, and sub-district hospitals to provide more health services to citizens.

School Education Minister Dada Bhuse, participating via video conference, stressed the importance of ensuring that no student is deprived of treatment. He suggested creating a dedicated cell to facilitate timely treatment for students’ illnesses.

During the event, Abitkar playfully gave Pawar a “dose of glucose,” highlighting the responsibility and expectations associated with Pawar’s leadership in implementing the program effectively and transparently.

The inauguration was attended by various officials, including Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, and other executives.
