G-20 Digital Economy Meeting in Pune to Highlight Pune’s IT Advancements and Maharashtra’s Culture

Pune, 31st May 2023: The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has directed its members to showcase the rich culture of Maharashtra and highlight Pune’s progress in the field of information technology during the ‘Digital Economy Working Group’ meeting held from June 12 to 14 in Pune in conjunction with the G-20 Nations Conference.

Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary of the E-Governance Division, emphasized the importance of meticulous planning and introduced various ideas to ensure a successful and culturally immersive event.

During a review meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan auditorium, Singh stressed the need for flawless planning and proposed incorporating cultural elements into the event. He suggested introducing guests to Maharashtra’s cultural heritage through the Palkhi ceremony and providing information about the Wari pilgrimage through QR codes and guidebooks. Additionally, he recommended showcasing the diverse food culture of Maharashtra during meals.

Pune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao highlighted the administration’s experience in organizing international events and expressed confidence in successfully hosting the G-20 meeting. The administration, in collaboration with various departments, is actively preparing for the meeting scheduled from June 12 to 14. Plans are underway to showcase Pune’s unique characteristics and potential, including visits to historical sites, educational complexes, and important heritage places. The coordination between the planning of the Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage and the G-20 meeting has also been ensured.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar provided an overview of the preparations made by the Municipal Corporation, which include city cleaning, beautification of important squares and roads, and nighttime electric lighting.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from various departments, and it was decided that the delegates would be welcomed in traditional Maharashtrian style at the airport with clarinet-choughda. The airport will be adorned with a digital theme to align with the meeting’s focus. A cultural program has been organized to honor the guests, featuring performances such as Maasaheb Jijau Vandan, Dindi, Shetkari dance, Mangalagour, Govinda, Koli dance, Lavani, Dhangar dance, Gandari, and Shivrajyabhishek ceremony.

The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on coordination between departments and the opportunity to showcase Pune’s rich cultural heritage, smart city initiatives, cleanliness, historical places, and food culture to the world. The planning will continue to ensure a memorable and successful event that highlights the best of Pune and Maharashtra.
