Goa, 17th December 2022: The government of Goa plans to periodically release an advisory detailing the do’s and don’ts that tourists should keep in mind while visiting Goa. This step was taken due to a rise in fraudsters and scammers posing as booking agents and cheating tourists. The advisory is supposed to contain guidelines for tourists to help them avoid such traps during their stay in the state.

Suggestions for guidelines to be included in the advisory were discussed at a meeting of Goa’s Tourism Board. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte highlighted the issue of unregistered booking agents cheating tourists by accepting bookings for hotel rooms.

Many incidents of tourists being defrauded by scammers have come to light in areas such as Calangute and Baga and have been reported to the police. These issues are no longer restricted to beaches but have spread across the state.

Nilesh Shah, President of the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa said that the advisory is much needed as it will help tourists have a better holiday. He recommended that advisories should also be put up at tourist destinations and beaches, warning visitors not to fall prey to such traps. He also said, “The advisory should be put up on the tourism department’s website and on social media.”
