Panaji, 16th July 2022: On Thursday, Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of Goa, revealed that Goa will soon have an app-based taxi service.

He said that an app-based taxi service would be built with everyone’s help in answer to a query from member Delilah Lobo.

Sawant said, “The only option is a cab service powered by an app. I’m speaking out for Goa’s cab operators because, in the long term, we won’t be able to live without app-based service. Don’t be against cab services offered through apps; we are prepared to provide them. We will respect the privacy of all parties involved.”

He added, “Although the government has provided the cab owners with a full subsidy of Rs 11,000 for the metre, they are not using it. Even tourists are taken advantage of; this needs to be taken seriously. If we want to maintain the tourism sector in the long run, we must consider this. I feel bad for taxi drivers, and if someone wants to start a cab company, we should support them.”

During the discussion, members of the opposition urged that the government issue fines to people who do not utilise taxi metres.
