Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil Announces Cancellation of Pune’s Water Cut

Pune, 29th July 2023: In light of the significant rainfall in the Khadakwasla project area and the satisfactory water storage in the project, Maharashtra State Minister for Higher and Technical Education and District Guardian Minister, Chandrakant Patil, has issued a directive to cancel the weekly water cut for Pune city starting from next Monday.

A review meeting was held at the Government Rest House, which saw the presence of several officials, including Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, Superintending Engineer of Water Resources Department Prasanna Joshi, Executive Engineer Shweta Kurhade, and Chief Engineer of the Water Supply Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation, Anirudh Pavaskar.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the water storage in the Khadakwasla project currently stands at 21.62 TMC, slightly higher than last year’s stock of 21.42 TMC during the same period. The required water for drinking and agricultural purposes in a year amounts to approximately 30 TMC.

In addition to providing adequate drinking water, Minister Patil emphasized the importance of allocating water for agricultural needs and ensuring the filling of ponds dependent on dam water. He also instructed the officials to conduct further reviews while considering the expected rainfall in the upcoming period.
