Heavy Rains And Landslides lash Maharashtra, Around 85 People Killed, In Landslide Incidents

Mumbai, 24th July 2021: The Konkan and Western Maharashtra are in a horrible state due to the cloudburst. On Thursday night flood occurs in various areas of Konkan and some parts of Maharashtra as there is heavy rainfall in these areas.  In some parts, landslides incidents occurred and at least 85 people were killed.

 In Raigad district, 49 people killed a village Taliye was buried under a landslide near Mahad. Eleven people were killed in a landslide at Kewvnale and Sutarwadi in Poladpur taluka. In Posare Budhwadi village in Ratnagiri, at least 17 people were buried in a landslide at Surrey. In Satara district, 8 People were killed and 35 others were missing due to landslides at 10 places at Satara, Patan, Wai and Jawali talukas.

The bodies of 36 people buried under the debris in Taliye village have been brought out. There are still fears that large numbers of people are trapped under the rubble. In addition, four houses at Kevnale in Poladpur collapsed due to landslides. Six people died in the incident, while a total of 11 people died due to landslides in Sutarwadi. Thirteen injured from both the villages were admitted to hospitals at Mahad and Poladpur.

Rescue and relief work is carrying in these places by NDRF, SDRF, Navy, Coast Guards. Each has appointed 2 teams in affected areas. Along with this, 12 teams also working for disaster relief work. The search operation is being carried to find out about missing people.

Chief Minister Udhav Thackrey announced 5 lakh for each deceased in a landslide, while the central government announced help of RS 2 lakh for deceased and Rs 50,000 for injured.
