Hotels, Restaurants and Bars To Face Rs 7500 to Rs 50,000 Fine, Cancellation Of License For Violating SOPs

Pune, October 6, 2020: The new guidelines for restaurants, hotels and bars have allowed resuming operations in the Pune district with a capacity of 50 percent. But it has also highlighted that if any hotel, restaurant and bar violates the rules, then they will be fined. On violating the rules for the second or third time, their license will be suspended or cancelled. Police have been authorised to collect the fine levied by the municipal corporation/revenue department (in rural areas).

Pune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao, who has issued a circular, said, “The municipal corporation will take a meeting with the respective associations of restaurants, bars and hotels, to explain them the new guidelines. A team will be set up which will visit the restaurant and bars to check whether the rules are followed or not. If rules are violated then the Central Excise Act or Disaster Management Act will be charged against them.”  

He also said, “there will be no compromise in the health and life of citizens. The hotel, restaurant and bar employees should be tested for coronavirus in a regular interval of time. We will provide them with the testing facilities.” 

As per the circular, the hotel/bar and restaurant will be fined Rs 2500, Rs 5000 and Rs 7500 for the first, second and third violation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs). After their license will be suspended. The municipal corporation employees have been authorised to check the establishments and levy the fine, while cops have been authorised to collect those fines.

Action against Bar owners, customers

On the other hand, excise department will inspect the bars and if it is found that they are not following the Mumbai Foreign Liquor Rules, 1953 and other rules, then action will be initiated against the bar owners as well as the customers. For the first violation, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be levied, for the second time Rs 25,000 and for the third time Rs 50,000 fine will be imposed. If there is a repeated violation then bar license can be suspended or cancelled.
