How to Check Your PF Balance Without UAN Number: A Step-by-Step Guide

While most employees track their PF balance using their Universal Account Number (UAN), many are unaware that it’s also possible to check the balance without having the UAN number readily available—provided certain conditions are met.

1. Check PF Balance via SMS (Without Using UAN Number Directly)
To use this method, it is mandatory that your UAN is linked with your KYC documents (Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account). Follow these steps:
- Step 1: Send an SMS from your registered mobile number to 7738299899.
- Step 2: The message should be in this format:
- EPFOHO UAN ENG
- Replace ENG with the preferred language code, such as HIN for Hindi, MAR for Marathi, TAM for Tamil, etc.
✅ Note: This service only works if your UAN is activated and linked to your Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account. If the linkage is incomplete, the SMS service will not work.
2. Check PF Balance via Missed Call
If you don’t receive an SMS response or face issues with the previous method, you can also check your PF balance by giving a missed call.
- Step 1: Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number.
- Step 2: You will receive an SMS containing your latest PF balance details.
🔒 Requirements: Your UAN must be active and linked with either PAN or Aadhaar.
3. View and Download PF Passbook Using UMANG App
For a more detailed view of your PF transactions, you can use the UMANG app.
- Step 1: Download the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Step 2: Open the app and select EPFO from the list of services.
- Step 3: Navigate to ‘Employee Centric Services’ and click on ‘View Passbook’.
- Step 4: Enter your UAN number, then input the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Step 5: Click on ‘Submit’, choose your employer’s name, and select the ‘Download’ option to get your passbook.
