Pune, August 29, 2020: An HR professional working for an esteemed company had posted her resume on an online portal in search for an overseas job. She received a call from a fraudster who had allegedly offered her a job in a construction company based in Australia.

The HR professional was duped of Rs 5.11 lakh in June this year. The Yerwada police station has traced that the caller was from West Bengal. But the identity of the caller hasn’t been ascertained yet.

According to police, the woman works for an esteemed IT company as an HR manager. She had uploaded her resume about eight months ago on a portal and soon started receiving calls from companies in Pune and other cities. One day, she received a call from an international number and the caller pretended to be from a construction company from Australia.

She appeared for an online interview and the caller said that she had been hired as an HR professional for their company. The caller then shared the details of a few bank account numbers and told her that these accounts are with the Indian banks.

After all this was done, she started receiving emails from the company to deposit money in the given accounts for medical expenses, insurance fees, travel fees, stay charges, processing charges, job taxes and other expenses.

Police said that on the receipts of the money transactions, the company invited her to visit their office in Mumbai and when the woman had gone to the given address, she found no such company and that’s when she realised she had fallen for a scam. She waited for a month after receiving the call and then came to us for filing a complaint after realising that she had been duped.
