Igatpuri to Amne Stretch of Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway to Open on June 5

Mumbai, 2nd June 2025: The final 76-kilometre mountain stretch of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg, connecting Igatpuri and Amne, will be inaugurated on Thursday, June 5, by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The ceremony will take place at Igatpuri, after which the section will be opened to the public, marking the full completion of the 701-kilometre high-speed expressway.
This long-awaited segment, which navigates the challenging mountainous terrain, was the last missing link in the Samruddhi corridor. Its opening will enable uninterrupted travel from Nagpur to Mumbai, cutting the journey time from 16 hours to just 8 hours.
Key Features of the Igatpuri-Amne Stretch:
The route includes five tunnels designed to ease transit through the hills.
Among these, a 7.78 km tunnel near Igatpuri is Maharashtra’s longest road tunnel, reducing travel time between Igatpuri and Kasara to just 8 minutes.
With this stretch becoming operational, the entire 701-km Samruddhi Expressway will be fully functional.
Construction of the final segment was completed in April 2025, followed by comprehensive safety and readiness checks.
Breakdown of the Samruddhi Expressway Sections:
Nagpur to Shirdi – 520 km
Shirdi to Bharvir – 80 km
Bharvir to Igatpuri – 25 km
Igatpuri to Amne – 76 km (to open June 5)
The Samruddhi Expressway is a flagship infrastructure initiative led by Chief Minister Fadnavis aimed at enhancing connectivity, slashing travel times, and boosting logistics between Maharashtra’s key urban centres. Anilkumar Gaikwad, Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), said the completion of this stretch ushers in a new era of road travel in the state, promising significant economic growth and time savings.
Once fully operational, commuters will benefit from a continuous, access-controlled, high-speed route between Nagpur and Mumbai, offering unmatched convenience and efficiency.
