IMD Forecasts Light Rain, Thunderstorms in Pune This Week
Pune, 15th June 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Pune over the next few days, even as the southwest monsoon continues its gradual advance across parts of Maharashtra.
According to the IMD, Pune is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light rain, thunderstorms and lightning during the afternoon and evening hours through the week. While Monday is expected to remain largely clear before turning partly cloudy later in the day, similar conditions are forecast for the following three days, with intermittent rain activity likely.
The forecast comes amid a delayed monsoon progression over the state. Although weather conditions remain favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon into additional parts of Maharashtra over the next four to five days, the monsoon is yet to fully establish itself over the region.
Meteorological officials said Pune usually receives the monsoon around June 10. However, the city has so far witnessed only scattered pre-monsoon showers, with residents continuing to await sustained rainfall.
The IMD attributed the expected weather activity to prevailing atmospheric systems influencing conditions across central and peninsular India. The department has advised citizens to remain alert during thunderstorm activity and lightning spells expected during the week.
