India Dominates World’s Most Polluted Cities List: 14 Out of Top 20 Located in India, Check List Here

Global, 6th June 2023: In a concerning revelation, Bhiwadi, a city located in Rajasthan, India, has emerged as the most air-polluted city among the top 20 cities globally. The rankings, based on PM2.5 concentration (measured in μg/m³), were recently released, highlighting the severe air quality challenges faced by several Indian cities. Delhi, the capital of India, secured the fourth position on the list.

 

Lahore, Pakistan, claimed the unfortunate distinction of being the city with the highest PM2.5 concentration, registering a value of 97.4. Hotan in China followed closely behind with a concentration of 94.3. Bhiwadi, with a PM2.5 concentration of 92.7, secured the third position globally and the top position among the Indian cities in the ranking.

 

The Indian capital, Delhi, was ranked fourth on the list with a PM2.5 concentration of 92.6. The city has been grappling with severe air pollution issues for years, especially during the winter season when the air quality often reaches hazardous levels. Other Indian cities that featured in the top 20 include Darbhanga (ranked 6th), Asopur (ranked 7th), New Delhi (ranked 9th), Patna (ranked 10th), Ghaziabad (ranked 11th), Dharuhera (ranked 12th), Chapra (ranked 14th), Muzaffarnagar (ranked 15th), Greater Noida (ranked 17th), Bahadurgarh (ranked 18th), Faridabad (ranked 19th), and Muzaffarpur (ranked 20th).

 

The data serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for robust measures to combat air pollution in these cities. The harmful effects of prolonged exposure to such high levels of PM2.5 particles on public health and the environment cannot be understated.
