Pune, 2nd December 2024: Cyclone Fengal has brought unseasonal rains and significant climatic changes to parts of Maharashtra and other regions in India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for districts like Satara, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, predicting rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds over the next four to five days.

Cyclone Fengal is currently stationary near the north coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, moving westward at a slow pace. While its intensity is expected to decrease in the coming hours, its effects are being felt across the Konkan-Goa region, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. IMD forecasts dry weather in most parts of the state during the early hours of the day, with cloudy skies in the afternoon.

The Ghat regions and districts such as Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, and Satara are likely to experience light to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms between 2nd and 5th December. Wind speeds during this period may reach 30-40 km/h. Light rains with thunderstorms are also expected in areas including Pune, Raigad, Sangli, Solapur, Dharashiv, Nanded, and Latur.

Additionally, the unseasonal rains have disrupted normal weather patterns, leading to a rise in both maximum and minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees in the last 24 hours. The cold wave conditions that prevailed in Madhya Maharashtra have eased, and IMD predicts that temperatures across the state will continue to rise over the next few days. Authorities have urged citizens in affected districts to remain cautious, especially in light of possible thunderstorms and strong winds.
