Headingley (England), 17th June 2026: India Women continued their impressive run in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding 95-run victory over the Netherlands at Headingley on Tuesday.
After posting a formidable total of 209, India delivered a clinical performance with both bat and ball to register one of their biggest wins of the tournament so far.
Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana led the charge with a scintillating 74 off 47 balls, laced with 11 boundaries. Combining elegance with aggression, the left-hander set the tone for India’s innings from the outset.
Opening partner Shafali Verma provided excellent support with a brisk 55 off 38 deliveries as the duo put on a dominant opening stand. Their attacking approach kept the Netherlands bowlers under constant pressure and ensured India maintained a strong scoring rate throughout the innings.
Chasing a daunting target of 210, the Netherlands struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Indian bowling attack and sharp fielding unit.
The decisive moment came in the 16th over when spinner Shree Charani ripped through the middle order, claiming three wickets in a single over to extinguish any hopes of a late fightback.
Nandini Sharma also played a key role, picking up two wickets and maintaining relentless pressure on the Dutch batters. India’s bowlers shared the workload effectively, striking at regular intervals to keep the opposition firmly on the back foot.
India’s fielding was equally impressive, with the team displaying exceptional athleticism, safe catching and sharp ground work throughout the contest.
With back-to-back commanding victories, India have sent a strong message to their rivals. More than just another win, this was a statement performance that underlined the team’s title ambitions and growing momentum in the tournament.
