New Delhi, 27th August 2022: The Indian Army is going to buy a lightweight but very strong modern technology-equipped tank named, ‘Zoravar’. It has been decided so given the military standoff on the northern border with China, future challenges and wars.

The army is focused on developing the capability of a ‘Zoravar’ tank as well as a Swarm Drone, Anti-Tank Guided Missile, Future Ready Combat Vehicle equipped with state-of-the-art technology and Mechanized Infantry.

According to defence sources, the army has prepared the design of the ‘Zoravar’ tank and it is approved by the government for its purchase. These tanks will be procured under the ‘Make in India’ category of the Defense Procurement Process 2020 keeping in mind the concept of self-reliant India.

To make this tank, the domestic defence industry has been contacted and asked to make a design tank on behalf of the army. This tank will be according to the needs and geographical areas of the Indian Army.

One of the reasons for the emphasis on indigenous tanks is that the supply of tank parts and equipment from these countries is being affected by the circumstances arising out of the war between Ukraine and Russia.

Zorawar is named after the ancient Indian general, Zorawar Singh Kahluria, who conquered Ladakh, Tibet, Baltistan and Skardu.
