Indian Wheelchair Handball Team Participated In World Championship Held In Portugal; Loses Bronze By One Goal

Portugal, 24th November 2022: The Indian Wheelchair Handball team participated in a World Championship held in Portugal from November 18 to November 20.

 

This was the second time that team was participating in a World Championship. The first championship was in Cairo held in September 2022. Seven teams from Europe, India, and Pakistan took part in the championship held in Portugal.

 

In this tournament, the Indian team had five new players, Reena Gupta, Nisha Gupta, Somnath Jadhav, Rajendra Singh, and Latief Bhat.

 

The team beat Romania, Netherlands, and Croatia but lost to Portugal in the semifinals. The Indian team missed the Bronze medal after losing to Norway just by one goal.

 

The team consisted of Suresh Karki, Anil Kachhi, Javed Choudhary, Somnath Jadhav, Rajendra Singh, Minakshi Jadhav, Reena Gupta, Nisha Gupta, Ajit Shukla, Latief Bhat, Koteshwar Rathod, and Ramesh Shanmugam.

 

Anand Mane was the Head Coach and Captain Louis George was the Assistant Coach. Ajith Gomes was the Manager of the team.
