India, 17th August 2023: The philanthropic and CSR arm of Infosys, Infosys Foundation, has unveiled an impactful scholarship initiative named ‘STEM Stars.’ This program is designed to uplift underprivileged girl students by bolstering education in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines.

The primary objective is to foster encouragement and financial support, thereby facilitating their pursuit of an undergraduate degree in STEM fields. In an initial phase of this endeavor, more than 2,000 aspiring female scholars across the nation, who aspire to embark on higher education in STEM domains at esteemed institutions, will receive financial aid spanning four years.

In India, the selection of STEM courses is often hindered by factors like limited access, lack of mentorship, and financial constraints. The STEM Stars scholarship program is positioned to alleviate these challenges by encompassing tuition fees, living expenses, and study materials, with an annual stipend of up to INR 1 lakh, throughout the duration of the STEM course. During its inaugural year, the scholarship will encompass institutions accredited by NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework), including prominent establishments such as the IITs, BITS-Pilani, NITs, and renowned medical colleges.

Sumit Virmani, Trustee of Infosys Foundation, stated, “Educational opportunities are often impeded by poverty, particularly for many young individuals in India, with girls being disproportionately affected. At Infosys Foundation, we view support for education among underprivileged girl students as a pivotal mission. Our belief extends beyond individual impact, as we recognize that empowering women through education positively influences the educational trajectory of their children, thus breaking generational cycles of disparity. Hence, the ‘STEM Stars’ scholarship program strives to provide aspiring girl students with a comprehensive educational environment, embodying our vision for progress.”
