Internet Suspended After Communal Clashes In Satara, Police Appeal To People To Maintain Law And Order

Satara 11th Sept 2023: Communal clashes erupted in Pusesavali village located in Khatav taluka of Satara on Sunday night over an alleged objectionable social media post. Multiple houses were set on fire while one person sustained critical injuries in the incident following which the administration suspended the internet service as precautionary measures and has appealed the citizens to not believe any rumours.

According to officials, the incident was reported at around 9:30 pm Saturday when stones were pelted at a religious place by a group of people from a particular community. According to reports, the district administration has imposed section 144 in the region to maintain law and order situation and warned of strict action against those involved in violence.

The Satara Police through their social media account have appealed to the citizens to not believe in rumours amid tense situations and asked them to not post any message that could potentially lead to clashes and create law and order problems. The citizens have also appealed to inform the police and administration about any untoward incident reported in their surrounding areas.

According to police, a case has been registered against over 100 people under sections 295 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
