Mumbai, 8th April 2023: Ajinkya Rahane took advantage of the opportunity given by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Dhoni’s inclusion of Ajinkya in the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) playing XI against Mumbai Indians (MI) was a success. Ajinkya, who had played spent most of his cricketing carrier on the Wankhede pitch, thrashed the MI bowlers senselessly.

Chennai won the toss and bowled to restrict Mumbai to 157 runs on their home ground, Wankhede Stadium. CSK then overcame the challenge while losing three wickets to spare to get their second win of the season. This is Mumbai’s second defeat in a row and their scoreboard is still blank.

The in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad was seen watching this spectacular inning from one side and supporting Rahane with the same passion. Then another Mumbaikar Shivam Dube played well. Mumbai’s own Tushar Deshpande gave a shock to MI in bowling. Today CSK implemented a successful strategy against Mumbai Indians.

Jason Behrendorff dismissed Devon Conway (0) for a third ball. Batting at number three, Ajinkya Rahane attacked Mumbai Indians at home. In the fourth over bowled by Arshad Khan, Ajinkya scored 23 runs of 6,4,4,4,4,4,1. Ajinkya scored the fastest fifty in IPL 2023 with 52 off 19 balls. He broke Jos Buttler’s record of 20 (vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad). Ajinkya scored 61 runs off 27 balls with seven fours and three sixes. Piyush Chawla took his wicket.

Ruturaj and Shivam Dube maintained the tempo set by Ajinkya. While Arjun Tendulkar was expected to get a chance as an impact player, Rohit brought in spinner Kumar Kartikeya. He shocked CSK in his third over. He broke the 43-run partnership of Ruturaj and Shivam (28).

Ambati Rayudu and Ruturaj made CSK win the match by keeping seven wickets for Chennai. Ruturaj remained unbeaten on 40 and Rayudu on 20 runs. Chennai scored 159 for the loss of three wickets in 18.1 overs.

Earlier, after the wickets of Rohit (21) and Ishan (32), the team couldn’t perform well. Suryakumar Yadav (1), Cameron Green (12), and Arshad Khan (1) went back to the pavilion. Tilak Varma and Tim David struggled for a while.

Ravindra Jadeja sent back Tilak who scored 22 off 18 balls. Jadeja took three wickets for 20 runs. Mitchell Santner also took two wickets in 28 runs. Tim David bounced back with 31 runs off 22 balls. Mumbai Indians scored 157 while losing eight wickets. Tushar Deshpande also picked up two wickets in 31 runs.
