Chennai, 3rd April 2023: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a triumphant comeback in Chepauk stadium in 1,426 days. In the second match of the IPL 2023, CSK beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on the back of a great team performance. Kyle Mayers

got off to a storming start in CSK’s reply of 217, but Moeen Ali turned the match around by taking four wickets.

He was well supported by Mitchell Santner and CSK regained their grip on a match that had slipped from their hands. Nicholas Pooran, who was looking to be a doozy, was dismissed by Tushar Deshpande at a crucial moment and CSK’s victory was assured.

The in-form Kyle Mayers made a clean sweep of the CSK bowlers. In the sixth over, Moeen Ali turned the match and took the wicket of Mayers who hit 53 runs off 22 balls with eight fours and two sixes. His 79-run partnership with KL Rahul came to an end.

Mitchell Santner dismissed Deepak Hooda (2) in the very next over. Ali dismissed KL Rahul (20) and then Krunal Pandya (9) in his next over. Santner took one wicket for 21 runs in four overs. Moeen took a wicket of Marcus Stoinis in his fourth over to send LSG halfway behind for 130.

Lucknow announced Ayush Badoni in place of Avesh Khan as an impact player. Moeen bowled brilliantly with 4-0-26-4. LSG had hoped with Nicholas Pooran on the field and he smashed 13 runs in Ravindra Jadeja’s first over with two sixes. However, Pooran was dismissed for 32 (18 balls) in the 16th over bowled by Tushar Deshpande.

Deepak Chahar failed to impress today and conceded 18 runs in the 17th over with three wides. In the same over, Shivam Dube dropped K Gowtham’s catch. Deepak conceded 55 runs in four overs. Tushar conceded seven runs in the 18th over as LSG needed 37 runs to win in 12 balls.

In the 19th over, Rituraj blocked three runs for the team while doing amazing fielding. Rajvardhan Hangargekar conceded nine runs in the 19th over and LSG needed 28 runs in six balls. Unable to finish the over in time, Chennai had to field one man short outside 30 yards in the 20th over. Tushar bowled brilliantly to dismiss Ayush Badoni (23) in the 20th over.

Lucknow managed to score 205 for seven wickets and Chennai won the match by 12 runs. Tushar took two important wickets for 45 runs.

Earlier, Devon Conway (47) and Rituraj Gaikwad (57) put on a 110-run partnership for the first wicket. Shivam Dube was dismissed for 27 runs and Moeen Ali for 19 runs. Ben Stokes and Ravindra Jadeja’s performance was not that great for today’s match. MS Dhoni crossed the 5000+ runs mark in IPL with 12 runs in three balls. Ambati Rayudu remained unbeaten on 27 off 14 balls and Chennai scored 217 for seven wickets. Ravi Bishnoi and Mark Wood took three wickets each.
