IPL 2023: Gujarat Defeats Mumbai By 62 Runs In Qualifier 2; GT To Face CSK For Final Of IPL 2023
Ahmedabad, 26th May 2023: In the 73rd match, play-off 2, Shubman Gill scored a brilliant century of 129 runs. On the strength of this century, Gujarat Titans (GT) set a challenge of 234 runs for victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Tilak Varma, who came to the field to overcome this challenge, scored 43 runs in 14 balls with a brilliant innings. Suryakumar Yadav also scored 61 runs. Mumbai’s run rate was tremendous. But Gujarat took the wickets of Mumbai at the strategic moment and wrapped up their innings for 171 runs. From Gujarat, Mohit Sharma took five wickets in 2.2 overs.
Mumbai Indians’ regular opener Ishan Kishan got injured and Nehal Wadhera came in his place. But Mohammed Shami gave Mumbai the first blow by dismissing him for four runs in the first over. Suryakumar Yadav, who came in after Cameron Green’s dismissal, started his innings by hitting boundaries. But in the very next over, Rohit Sharma fell prey to Mohammed Shami and returned after scoring eight runs.
Green is out with an injury. Tilak Varma, who came to bat with Suryakumar, showed Gujarat his strength in the power play. He scored 24 runs in the 5th over bowled by Mohammed Shami by hitting consecutive fours. Tilak Varma scored 43 runs in 14 balls. But he was out on the last ball of the power play. But due to Varma’s brilliant batting, Mumbai reached 72 runs in six overs.
Although Tilak Varma was dismissed for 43 off 14 balls, he did a great job for the team. After Varma, retired hurt Cameron Green returned to the field. He formed a powerful partnership with Suryakumar to take Mumbai to 110 runs in ten overs. The duo put on a 52-run partnership for the fourth wicket. But Joshua Little gave a big blow to Mumbai by dismissing Green for 30 runs.
After Green’s dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav took charge of the innings. He tried to increase his speed. He scored fifty in the 15th over. But Suryakumar, who scored 61 runs off 38 balls, was caught by Mohit Sharma.
Mohit even dismissed Vishnu Vinod before recovering from this shock. Tim David also came back after adding just two runs. Jordan also went back to the pavilion. Mumbai were 168 for eight in 16 overs. In the end, Mohit Sharma took five wickets for ten runs to bundle Mumbai’s innings to 171 runs and win the match by 62 runs.
