IPL 2025: FIR Filed Against RCB, Event Organisers, KSCA for Criminal Negligence in Bengaluru Stampede Tragedy

Bengaluru, 5th June 2025: Bengaluru Police have registered a criminal case against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise, event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Administrative Committee, following a deadly stampede during the RCB victory parade outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The First Information Report (FIR), lodged at Cubbon Park Police Station, names RCB as accused number 1, DNA Entertainment as accused number 2, and a top official from KSCA as accused number 3, alleging criminal negligence that led to the deaths of 11 people and left dozens injured.
According to police sources, the FIR states that despite repeated warnings from law enforcement about potential crowd management and safety risks, the organisers proceeded with the event, which ultimately resulted in chaos and tragedy. The stadium, with a seating capacity of only 35,000, reportedly saw an overwhelming turnout of 2–3 lakh people, far beyond what was anticipated or accommodated. Fans without tickets attempted to force their way in, leading to a fatal surge and stampede outside the stadium.
The Karnataka government has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directing the district magistrate to submit a detailed report within 15 days. Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and issued notices to the state government, demanding a status report by June 10.
In response to the tragedy, RCB has announced financial assistance of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and launched the ‘RCB Cares’ initiative to support the injured. The franchise expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a painful loss for the entire RCB family.
The case has drawn widespread attention, with authorities stressing the importance of robust crowd control measures and adherence to safety protocols for future public events. The ongoing investigation aims to determine specific lapses and hold those responsible accountable for the tragic loss of life.
