Mumbai, 14th June 2022: The IPL Media Rights have been sold as announced by Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Three companies have bought the IPL rights for Rs 48,390 crore for a contract of five years. This has also been confirmed on the official Twitter account of the IPL.
It has been reported on the IPL’s Twitter account that Star Sports India, Viacom18 and Times Internet have bought the media rights of IPL for the next five years.
Congratulating the three companies, BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted, “I congratulate Viacom18 for winning the digital rights for Australia, South Africa and the UK. Times Internet gets the rights of MENA and US apart from the rest. Congratulations to the countries for winning the world rights. IPL is as popular outside India as it is here and the spectators will be able to enjoy top class cricket.”
Package A means that the TV rights of the Indian subcontinent from 2023 to 2027 of IPL have been bought by Star India. Disney Star made a bid of Rs 23,575 crore for Package A. Disney Star will have to pay Rs 57.5 crore for telecasting an IPL match.
Viacom has bought the digital streaming rights of the Indian subcontinent for the next five years of Package B i.e. IPL for Rs 20,500 crore. Viacom will pay Rs 50 crore to BCCI for digital streaming of an IPL match.
Viacom has decided to spend Rs 3,258 crore for the media rights of Package C i.e. total 18 matches of a season (which includes IPL opener, 13 double headers and 4 playoff matches).In this way, BCCI will get Rs 33.24 crore for a match.
At the same time, Viacom and Times Internet made a bid of 1,057 crores for Package D i.e. IPL 2023-27 World Media Rights. In this way, for an IPL match, these companies will have to pay Rs 2.6 crore to the BCCI. In the next five years, the BCCI will earn Rs 48,390 from the media rights of the IPL.
