Is It Unusual Rain In December In Pune? Know What Past Records Say

Pune, 1st December 2021: It’s been raining since early morning in the Pune district and there is a warning for isolated heavy rain in ghat areas and moderate rains in city areas till late night. Shivajinagar area has received 33.8 mm rain today till 8.30 pm.
The situation is expected to improve from Thursday afternoon, informed Dr Anupam Kashyapi, Head, Weather & Air Pollution Monitoring Unit, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune.
He appealed to people to take precautions as many areas are experiencing fog restricting visibility partially. “Today there was around 5-6°C drop in maximum temperature. So even during the daytime, it felt a bit cold”, he added.
When asked if rains are unusual in Pune during December, Dr Kashyapi, there is a history of rains in the month of December. On 13th December 2014, Pune had recorded 53.1 mm rainfall.
