Join the ‘Chirp for Change’ Movement on 16th March – A Call to Protect Our Sparrows

Pune, 06 March 2025: Once a familiar sight in our homes and streets, the cheerful chirping of sparrows is now fading away. Rapid urbanization, pollution, and habitat destruction have driven these tiny birds to the brink. But there’s still hope! This World Sparrow Day, let’s take action to protect and revive their dwindling population.
To raise awareness and inspire conservation efforts, Aarambh Foundation and Punekar News, in collaboration with several eco-conscious organizations, are organizing ‘Chirp for Change’—a special event dedicated to sparrow conservation. The event will take place on 16th March 2025 at 11:00 AM at One Place, FC Road, Pune.
Why Should We Care About Sparrows?
Sparrows are more than just charming little creatures; they play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance by feeding on insects and pests. However, with green spaces vanishing and electromagnetic pollution rising due to mobile towers, their population has sharply declined. The good news? Small, collective efforts can make a huge impact and bring them back!
What’s in Store at ‘Chirp for Change’?
This event is designed to be an informative and interactive experience for bird lovers, nature enthusiasts, and families. Highlights include:
🔹 Street Play – ‘Chimanyanche Gharakul’
Students from 18 Pune schools, under the direction of Ashwini Ambhike, will present a heartfelt drama portraying the struggles of sparrows adapting to modern city life.

How You Can Make a Difference
Beyond attending the event, here are a few simple ways you can contribute to sparrow conservation:
✅ Set Up Bird Feeders & Water Bowls – Place them on your balcony or terrace to provide a reliable food and water source for sparrows.
✅ Grow Native Plants & Shrubs – These offer natural food and shelter, helping sustain bird populations.
✅ Reduce Pesticide Use – Excessive chemicals in gardens and farms kill insects, an essential food source for sparrows.
✅ Spread Awareness – Educate family and friends about sparrow conservation and encourage them to take action.
