Justice After 15 Years: Pune Court Sentences Man To 4 Years In Prison For Blackmailing And Raping Woman
Pune, 10th March 2023: The Pune district court has finally given a verdict after 15 years in the case of a man who had blackmailed and raped a young woman. Ismail Abdul Rehman Karjagi, a 43-year-old resident of Sahara Nagar in Solapur, has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 386 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The incident took place in February 2008 when Karjagi took the victim to a flat in Vadgaon to discuss her future plans. There he physically assaulted and raped her while she was getting dressed. He even filmed her while she was naked and threatened to upload the videos on Orkut and send them to everyone. He also threatened to harm the victim’s younger sister by throwing acid on her face.
Karjagi used this incident to blackmail the victim repeatedly and extorted money from her before committing the heinous crime again. The court of Justice SS Gulhani finally heard the case and gave a verdict, sentencing the accused to four years of rigorous imprisonment.
