Srinagar, 20th July 2021: Two BJP leaders have been arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district for carrying out a false terror attack on themselves.

Two security guards have also been arrested in this case. Both the BJP workers took this step to increase their security and to attract the attention of big leaders. Ishfaq Ahmed, Basharat Ahmed with the guards were produced in the court where they have been sent on remand for seven days.

On Friday evening, both claimed that they were fired upon by unidentified gunmen, in which Ishfaq Ahmed sustained an injury to his arm. Initially, the police had said that the guard had accidentally opened fire after which the BJP worker suffered minor injuries but further investigation revealed that it was a deliberate terrorist attack.

Ishfaq Ahmed is the son of BJP’s district president Mohammad Shafi Mir. BJP has suspended Mir, his son, and Basharat Ahmed and started an internal inquiry for further action.

In April and May, two panchayat members of the BJP were arrested for running an extortion racket in Anantnag and Sopore areas. They were accused of posing as terrorists to extort money from traders and apple dealers.

Last year another BJP leader, Tariq Ahmed Mir was arrested by the NIA for alleged terror links; He was accused of supplying arms to the terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen. The arrest was made as part of an investigation into Davinder Singh – a senior J&K Police officer who was arrested in January 2020 while transporting top Hizbul terrorists.

Mir was the sarpanch (village head) of Wachi in Shopian district. He contested the 2014 assembly elections on a BJP ticket.
