Kibe Lakshmi Alias Prabhat Theatre To Shut Down

Pune, 26th October: The witness to the Golden Era of Marathi movies, the Kibe Lakshmi, earlier Prabhat theatre is likely to shut its door forever. Sources close to the owners said that they were decided to close down.

 

However, there have been also talks of giving it on lease to some other contractor. Ajay Kibe said, “our brother had renamed it in the memory of his wife Lakshmi. However, after his death, we are contemplating whether to continue running it or to give it on contract.”.

 

In 2015, Ajay Kibe was given the rights to run the theatre. He and his brother Suresh Kibe were looking after it. Since Suresh was residing in Pune, he was looking after the day today business. However, he died three months back and yet again the question of who will look after it came to fore.

 

Golden history of Prabhat talkies

 

Prabhat talkies was named after the Prabhat film company which used to make Marathi movies. Vishnupant Damale, S Fatehlal, V. Shantaram, Keshavrao Dhaybar, Sitaram Kulkarni were the founder of this film company.

 

Movies like Ayodhecha Raja, Sant Tukaram, Ramshashtri, Sant Eknath, Manus, Shejari were few of the films that created the Golden era in Marathi film industry.
