Knights, Cheethas power into top spot
Pune, 16 Janauary 2023: Niragas Knights and Constellation Cheetahs emerged front runners in two age group categories and set the pace in the fifth edition of the City Premier League (CPL) Intra-Club 7-A-Side football tournament at the City Sports Arena, Moshi.
The tournament organized by City FC Pune on behalf of Sports Foundation Pune had both teams bag maximum points from the two matches they played respectively.
In the Under-9 section, Niragas Knights stood atop the section with an undefeated run. On Day-2, Knights logged a draw and a win. First-up, Knights and Diamond Daggers played a 3-3 draw. Youzarsif Shaikh (3rd, 16th) and Aaradhya Patil (7th) scored for Knights, before Anuj Shirote (6th, 12th, 17th) netted a hat-trick and single-handedly helped Diamond Daggers win a point. Later, Knights held on to Youzarsif Shaikh (6th) strike to down Matric Marvels 1-0.
The Under-11 section had Constellation Cheetahs and Niragas Knights end the day with level points on the table. In the top-table face off, Knights beat Cheethas 1-0 after Avneesh Joshi (9th) netted the winner. However, Knights lost to GNS Gunners 0-1 in the second match after Soham Dhumal (6th) silenced all. Cheetahs, meanwhile, drew with Golden Guardians 0-0 in their second game.
The Under 15 section had Constellation Cheetahs emerge clear leader with a 6-point advantage Cheetahs beat GNS Gunners 4-0 after Aditya Gavade (1st), Siddhant Surwase (2nd, 17th) and Pratik Dhawle (15th) scored. Later, Cheetahs logged a double with a 2-0 win over Matric Marvels after Pratik Dhawle (2nd, 14th) netted a brace.
In the Under 13 section, Success Strikers locked two huge wins. In the first Strikers, led by Shivraj Patil (3rd, 7th, 15th), downed Aditya Allstars 7-1. The other scorers were Malhar Gholop (11th, 18th), Aaryan Shedge (16th, 18th). For Aditya Allstars, Rudra Ghantellu (5th) pulled one back. Later, Strikers put aside Jyoti Jaguars 4-0 with Aaryan Shedge (5th, 9th) and Malhar Gholop (15th, 19th) netting a brace each.
