Kothrud: Indian Gaur Enters Residential Areas, Dies After Rescue Operation

Pune, December 9, 2020: Members of Mahatma Society, Kothrud were shocked and surprised early in the morning when Indian Gaur was spotted in their society. But after efforts by forest and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials for three long hours, they were finally able to rescue the wild animal. However, it died soon after.

At around 8 am, Indian Gaur was spotted in the society. No one knows how and from where he entered the society premises. He was injured in the stray dogs attack. The Gaur was restless and running haywire. He also broke the compound gates of two bungalows. The officials after receiving the information spread out the net, but the Gaur then reached the right Bhusari Colony area.

There he collided with vehicles and got his mouth injured. He then reached Paud road.

How officials caught and rescued him?
The officials tried to tie him with the rope but were unsuccessful in their efforts. They, even gave him the injection, but he did not respond to it too. However, somehow at around 12.30 pm the officials were able to rescue him.

How big and powerful Indian Gaur are?
Generally, the Gaur is found in the hilly region. In Maharashtra it is found in Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Amravati and Bhandara districts. It eats green leaves and grass and can enter the human habitants in search of green grass.

Indian Gaur is eight to 10 feet long and five to seven feet height. It weights around 650 to 1000 kg and is known for living in groups.
