Pune, 15th April 2025: While Pune city remained dry over the weekend, several surrounding areas received light rainfall on Monday, offering some relief after a prolonged heatwave, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Talegaon recorded the highest rainfall, with 13.5mm in the 24-hour period until Monday morning, followed by Girivan (10.5mm), Nimgiri (7mm), Ballalwadi (4.5mm), Lavasa (3.5mm), and Kurvande (1mm).

According to SD Sanap, a scientist at IMD Pune, the state is expected to experience hot air advection from northwest India, which will lead to an increase in day temperatures. “Parts of northwest India will be under a heatwave alert,” Sanap said.

While Sanap clarified that the rise in temperatures would not be extreme, he noted that a modest increase of 1-2°C is expected. “Lohgaon, which already recorded 41.8°C on Monday, could see temperatures reach 42°C or slightly higher. Similarly, Shivajinagar’s maximum temperature of 39.2°C on Monday could touch 40°C in the coming days,” he added.

The night temperature is also expected to rise by 1-2°C in the next few days, though it will not meet the IMD’s criteria for “warm night conditions.”

On Monday, the highest maximum temperature in Maharashtra was recorded in Akola at 43°C, which was 2.3°C above normal. Several locations across the state saw temperatures surpassing 40°C, including Lohgaon (41.8°C, +4°C departure), Jalgaon (41.5°C), Solapur (42.2°C), Beed (41.9°C), and Chandrapur and Washim (41.8°C).

In Pune, Shivajinagar reached 39.2°C, 1.4°C above the average for the season.

The Konkan-Goa region experienced relatively lower temperatures, with Colaba in Mumbai recording 34.2°C. However, Santacruz saw a scorching 36.8°C.

The lowest minimum temperature on Monday was in Shivajinagar, at 18.3°C, which was 1.4°C below the usual value for this time of year.
