Liquor Worth Rs 7.63 Crore Seized in Pune District Amid Maharashtra Election Code Enforcement

Pune, 22nd November 2024: During the Model Code of Conduct for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections, the Maharashtra State Excise Department seized liquor worth ₹7.63 crore in Pune district, as reported by Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase. Of all the liquor seized in Maharashtra, nearly 25% came from Pune district. A total of 1,100 cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 1,042 individuals.
The Model Code of Conduct for the Maharashtra elections was implemented on 15th October, with polling conducted on 20th October. The results are set to be announced tomorrow. Between 15th October and 20th November, the Excise Department’s Pune division operated in action mode, registering 1,100 cases, arresting 1,042 individuals, and seizing liquor and 234 vehicles, collectively valued at ₹7,63,34,231.
Under the supervision of Pune Excise Superintendent Charan Singh Rajput, the department confiscated 3,951 litres of beer, 4,498 litres of country-made liquor, 4,052 litres of foreign liquor, and 233 litres of foreign liquor from Goa, as well as hand-distilled country liquor, wine, and toddy.
A dry day has been declared for tomorrow in light of the Maharashtra election results, and the sale of liquor will be strictly prohibited.
