Pune, 22nd November 2024: The distribution of disability certificates at Sassoon General Hospital in Pune will now take place on Wednesdays and Fridays each week. Previously, these certificates were distributed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The announcement was made by the Medical Superintendent of Sassoon General Hospital, Dr. Yallappa Jadhav.

A disability certificate in India is an official document issued by authorised medical boards to confirm a person’s disability and its extent. It is essential for accessing government benefits such as reservations in education, employment, and housing, along with tax exemptions and free travel facilities. Additionally, it serves as proof for availing social security schemes and asserting rights under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016, which aims to promote inclusion and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
