Mumbai, 27th May 2021: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray today said that lockdown in Maharashtra will be extended after June 1 and then there will be phase-wise relaxation.

“Although the Coronavirus disease (COVID19) growth rate is slowly declining, the number of patients is increasing rapidly in 10 to 15 districts and the risk of mucormycosis is also increasing. Therefore, lockdown will not be lifted on June 1, it will be extended. Later, the restrictions will be relaxed in a phase-wise manner”, Thackeray said at a state cabinet meeting today.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that new lockdown rules will be announced in the next two days. “A decision on relaxation of restrictions would be taken in consultation with the state task force”, Tope informed.

The government is still cautious as the positivity rate is high in some districts. So the discussion that the lockdown will be lifted or maintained has been going on for a few days now. Finally, after today’s cabinet meeting, the picture regarding lockdown in the state has become clear.
